More about the City of Palo Alto Recreation Department
What is your agency’s connection to PADACC?
The City of Palo Alto Recreation Department is a long standing member of
the collaborative. We provide program alternatives to Alcohol & Drugs that
are socially and emotionally safe. Our programs can be found in the City of
Palo Alto Enjoy Catalog under Teens.
What were your agency's top 3 goals for 2008 - as related to underage drinking and drug use?
We're currently developing our goals for the year 2009.
What services does your agency provide to the community in relation to drugs, alcohol, bullying & harassment?
After school we provide a safe and fun recreation center for Middle Schoolers. Kids have access to caring adults who listen to them as well as creating a place to let them be pre-teens and teensThis is
done in a recreational environment. We also provide several leadership
programs and special events that give middle and high schoolers a fun
alternative in a supervised environment.
How is your agency measuring progress?
We conduct program evaluations twice annually and at the end of any major
program to evaluate how the program meets the needs of our attendees.
What resources do you think your agency needs in order to achieve its goals?
We no longer have staff dedicated to working with at risk youth and would love to have the personnel to restart this important effort. We would also like to see staff dedicated
to High School programming.
